Certificte III in Business

A Certificate III in Business will teach you all about the ins and outs of business operations and how to work in a business environment in general. You’ll learn skills that relate to your work practices, such as business administration, how to produce business documents and how to use the business resources at your disposal. This includes using word processing programs and other computer programs. Most of the skills you will learn here are broad, which you apply to the various industry sectors, although that does not mean it will not teach you relevant theoretical knowledge. You can decide to do this full time or part-time, though the longest you would ever have to spend on a course here is 12 months.  You’ll also develop more ‘soft skills’, such as the ability to communicate, work in a team environment and overall, how to contribute to team effectiveness. Upon successful completion, you’ll have all the tools you need to establish your career in business.

What kind of subjects do you study in a Certificate III in Business?

The broad subjects that you’ll study are numeracy and information technology. The Certificate III in Business has only one core unit: Apply knowledge of WHS legislation in the workplace. Many of the elective units across many of these courses include:

  • Maintaining financial records
  • How to process customer complaints
  • Utilising a knowledge management system
  • How to promote effective workplace relationships

And many others.

What are the job outcomes?

  • Office Assistant
  • Receptionist
  • Word Processor
  • Accounts Clerk
  • Data entry operator
  • General Clerk
  • Junior Personal Assistant

What do these positions entail?

Many of the positions listed above are so wildly different that it will be time-consuming to describe every role. Some are self-explanatory (e.g.: receptionist, office assistant, etc), but others may be a bit obscure. For example, a word processor is someone who works in an office environment, using word processing and other programs to write up digital text documents, produce spreadsheets and electronic presentations, along with scheduling other projects.

On the other hand, a data entry operator is someone who updates information on a business computer system on a regular basis.

What are the entry requirements for a Certificate III in Business?

There are no entry requirements you need to fulfil for many of the business courses we offer here. However, some do list some recommendations (e.g.: completing year 11, industry experience, Certificate II in Business, etc).
