About Security

Requirements for Entering Security in New Zealand
There are some legal requirements to become a professional in the security sector, be it as a security guard or a private investigator. To become a security guard in New Zealand there are no compulsory education needs, however having sufficient knowledge before applying is very useful. There is also mandatory training of at least three months that’s necessary and first aid training is also a crucial qualification. The most important item is a Certificate of Approval issued by the Ministry of Justice which is needed. Similar to most jobs concerned with protecting people, a police check will need to be performed to make sure there has been no previous convictions.
To become a Private Investigator, while there isn’t a qualification necessary, having a large amount of knowledge in surveillance, investigating and the legal constraints around trespass and privacy greatly increase the likelihood of finding a job. You will also need a Private Security Licence from the Ministry of Justice which can be applied for through the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority (PSPLA)
