This course will teach you how to use large data sets to make critical decisions. This program was created for analysts, digital marketers, sales managers, product managers, and data novices looking to learn the essentials of data analysis. You’ll use industry tools, Excel, and SQL to analyse large real world data sets and create data dashboards and visualizations to share your findings. Data Analytics culminates in a portfolio-grade presentation of your analysis and insights to your classmates and instructional team.

Entry requirements

This is a beginner-friendly program with no prerequisites. If you are new to data analysis, you will have access to three hours of pre-work to help you prepare for the course, and your Admissions producer may recommend that you take a short Excel workshop. If you already work with basic functions in Excel or have dabbled in SQL, our curriculum will enable you to perform more powerful analyses.

Course features

Engage in hands-on, project-based learning that’s designed to cover the most important data analytics concepts and tools.

As a student, you’ll:

  • Explore new concepts and tools through expert-led lectures and discussions
  • Complete hands-on exercises with real-world data sets to reinforce newly learned skills
  • Receive individualized feedback and support from your instructional team
  • Apply what you’ve learned to create a portfolio project: a presentation detailing your approach to and findings from solving a real-world data problem

Assessment

For the Data Analytics final project, you will address a data-related problem in your professional field or a topic of interest. You will acquire a real-world data set, then prepare, clean, and analyze it to draw meaningful conclusions.

Students share their results and each create a presentation that includes:

  • A summary of the data acquisition, cleaning, and parsing stages
  • A clear visualization or dashboard that displays insights both numerically and graphically
  • A description of high-level insights and resulting actions that are relevant to key stakeholders
