About Arts

Arts is a discipline which allows students to study humanities, languages and social sciences. It is a fantastic pathway to build up your knowledge about the community and society as a whole. A Bachelor of Arts is known for its flexibility and wide range of majors. Because of this, it’s more suited to students who want to learn from a variety of different subjects in the arts and humanities department. It may also suit those who wish to keep their options open to specialisation later on.

What does Bachelor of Arts course involve?

Each university has its own different undergraduate arts degree, but they, for the most part, they offer much of the same opportunities at the same amount of time. It usually takes three years to complete full-time. Many universities will offer a double major which you can use to combine specific skills.

If you’d like further information on the differences between the bachelors, then look into the specific university webpages for the degree.

What can you study with a Bachelor of Arts?

  • Creative writing
  •  Contemporary art
  • Social sciences
  • Visual arts
  •  Performing arts
  • Aboriginal studies
  • Environmental studies
  • Language studies
  • Law
  • Screen and Cultural studies
  • Politics

What jobs can you get with a Bachelor of Arts?

Your career pathway will depend on the arts major you choose. For example, if you major in visual arts, then you can get a job working at an art gallery. The most obvious choice here is to become a curator, but there’s also the option of becoming an art consultant or an art director.

If you decide against a career in the field you studied in, the skills and qualities you develop in an arts degree, such as analytical skills, writing skills and cultural awareness, are sought after by several employers across many different fields. Learning from a variety of different subjects will also broaden your general knowledge, building on your topics of conversation and therefore, your interpersonal skills.

While your chances of getting a career are higher if you do further study, some people have gotten jobs with just an undergraduate degree. Such entry-level positions include being an editor, technical writer or business consultant.
