The Reo Ora online courses are unlike any other offered by universities, wānanga, polytechnics or gaming apps. Reo Ora’s online Certificates have been developed over 30 years and come with award-winning apps and published books.
If you are looking at a serious online Certificate in Te Reo, without attending classes and speaking in front of others, this is the course for you. With our 5-step method, you can be speaking the Māori language in no time! There is no pass or fail in this course (it is competency-based), which means your effort is not based on merit.
There are 5 modules to complete in Level 1 of the Certificate in Te Reo, including: The Nature of the Māori Language; Family Genealogy; Nominal Sentences; Counting and Time; Progressive Sentences; and more.
The course is designed to be completed within 12 months. We recommend allowing approximately 4 hours of study per week to stay on track and complete the coursework comfortably.
The course is delivered fully online through our interactive learning platform and can be completed at your own pace over a 12-month period. Students are encouraged to dedicate around 4 hours per week to stay on track.
A key feature of the course is our app’s pronunciation feedback system, which uses a traffic light indicator to show how accurately you are pronouncing words and sounds. This gives students clear, real-time feedback and helps track pronunciation progress throughout the course.

Curriculum
You must complete each module in sequence before moving on to the next. The quizzes and assessments use an AI tool we call the Traffic Light System to measure the accuracy of your pronunciation. This means you receive a result immediately upon completion of each quiz or assessment. You automatically receive a digital badge at the end of each of the 5 modules and a Certificate in Te Reo – Level 1, upon completion of all 5 modules.
