The Auckland Hotel and Chefs Training School is one of the top culinary school’s in New Zealand for those who want a career as a head chef, cook, or other food services professional!

What is the Auckland Hotel & Chefs Training School?

The school is located in Newmarket, Auckland, and includes:

  • Three fully equipped kitchens, so that students can get hands-on work experience in catering, cooking and more
  • A training restaurant and bar, so that cook and chef training can happen for real customers
  • Free parking for students and lot’s of public transport links
  • Experienced tutors who have worked in the hospitality industry 

Every year the school welcomes a multitude of students from all over New Zealand, including Wellington, Otago, Christchurch and more. The school is fully NZQA accredited, and they accept both domestic and international students.  It’s a popular option for anyone looking for chef courses through tertiary education, as well as a brilliant starting point for specialities such as working in patisserie.  

Courses offered include:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Cookery Level 4
  • National Certificate in Hospitality Cookery Level 2
  • New Zealand Diploma in Cookery Advanced – Level 5 – with strands in cookery (with internship)

Why cookery courses?

Cookery courses are a fantastic way to get qualified at a cook, chef, sous-chef and more. By completing a course with the AHCTS, you show potential employers that you’re ready to work in any restaurant, cafe or commercial kitchen they have! During a course you’ll cover a range of units, potentially including:

Entry requirements:

The AHCTS has a variety of courses suitable for anyone – even those with no prior qualifications. Acceptance into a course is dependent on an interview with a student liaison officer, and they accept students from the age of 16 years old and up. 

How to study:

Courses are taught on campus at the AHCTS school, which is specifically designed to create the best course possible. Depending on the course, you may be able to complete your study full-time or part-time, so that you can get started in the service industry in the time frame that suits you.
