Course overview
IT skills are an important factor to the success of any business, making the tech industry hold high demands for skilled people. Become in-demand with our New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology at Level 5.
You will gain essential knowledge and practical skills about IT environments, user needs, programming, website development and database application. Through this, your understanding of the relationship between technology and society will grow and you’ll learn to troubleshoot and apply your knowledge to practical scenarios.
This qualification prepares students for the following international certifications: CompTIA A+, Cisco CCNA and ITIL Foundation.
What you'll learn
- Network Technologies: Provides the knowledge of fundamental concepts of networking principles, area networks, virtualisation, and cloud technologies which will assist student how to configure, secure user systems, and troubleshoot
- Programming: Provides the basic concepts of programming, and different data and control structures in programming which will help develop skills in designing, writing, testing, and debugging computer programs
- Technology in Society: Introduces the evolution of computing world which includes the current and emerging technologies, technical needs and its impact to the society
- Web Design & Database Application: Provides the skills and knowledge to design and create robust websites implementing HCI principles and usability tests to meet user requirements as well as knowledge of database fundamentals and implementation of a database application in solving business problems

Entry requirements
- Open entry with interview
- A qualification in Information Technology Level 3/4 and above, and/or NCEA level 2/3 OR overseas high school certificate
- Onshore international students are required to have a valid visa and insurance
International Onshore English Requirements
- IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 or NZCEL (Academic) Level 4 or equivalent
This programme requires students to have access to a laptop/desktop that can connect to the internet with a web browser and a required minimum screen size of 10 inches. For device specifications, please talk to your Course Advisor.

Completing this programme can lead you to careers as a computer technician, help desk technical support, entry level network/systems administrator or application support analyst.
This programme can also send you to further IT studies at NZSE College at levels 5 and 6.
