Course overview
Get modern hands-on IT training which will make you an asset to any business. Develop a broad understanding of the core concepts and practical skills in Information Technology, with a Technical Support focus. Learn how to provide a high standard of IT technical support demanded by today’s employment market.
You will develop your communication skills and your ability to determine the needs of customers and team members. Topics include IT Systems & Problem Solving, Networking Concepts, IT Desktop Support, and Software Development. This programme includes the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised IT certification from CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association).
Completing this Level 5 programme allows you to pathway into our diploma in Systems Administration. We provide hands-on practical IT training, with smaller class sizes (for more one-on-one time with your tutor), in a purpose-built IT training facility.

Entry requirements
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants must have completed the New Zealand qualification standard NCEA level 2 equivalent in their home country. Subjects must have included English, Reading, Writing and Maths
- All applicants will be required to complete an enrolment form and may be interviewed in person or via telephone or skype to evaluate their suitability for the programme
- Applicants who have English as a second language must have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5 with no individual band score lower than 5.0 in a single test event (or equivalent)

Subjects
You will learn how to install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair PC systems. This includes basic knowledge of desktop and portable systems, peripherals such as printers, basic networking concepts, and common preventative maintenance and safety procedures. You will also learn about Windows Desktops (Windows 10) for installing, basic configuration and repairing PC systems.
This module will teach you how to support personal computers in a networked environment, as well as learning the fundamentals of supporting a small Local Area Network. At the completion of this module you will be capable of supporting a small LAN, and understand how large networks are structured.
You will gain baseline technical knowledge of the Internet, Intranet and Extranet technologies. At the completion of this module you will have an understanding of Internet basics, Internet clients, development, networking, security and business concepts.
You will learn desktop configuration, support and troubleshooting skills, as well as being introduced to different aspects and features of the Windows Workstation environment. You will learn how to apply the principles of software development to create simple working applications, and about application compatibility
and support.
