This Level 7 Diploma in Applied Network and Cloud Technology will provide you with specialist knowledge and skills in the field of networking and cloud technology. Learn about computer networks, hardware and infrastructure as you are introduced to cloud computing and the internet of things (IoT). Upon graduation, you can be instrumental in future proofing organisations’ IT systems.
What you'll learn
- Network Infrastructure & Administration: This course provides students with advanced knowledge of computer hardware, network, and infrastructure. Students will obtain in-depth knowledge and practical experience in installation, configuration and troubleshooting for computer and network systems
- Cloud Infrastructure & Administration: The course introduces students to the fundamental and technical aspects of cloud computing, its benefits, applications, business and delivery models. Students will discuss the impact of cloud computing on IT service management, and the risks and consequences of using cloud in business while considering professional and cultural aspects informed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi, tikanga, Te Ao Māori, and Mātauranga Māori
- Wireless Network Systems: The course will give an overview of the fundamental concepts in mobile wireless systems and mobile computing. Students will analyse, investigate, evaluate and propose solutions to a real-life problem. The course provides the students with an opportunity to obtain experience in applied research, academic writing and presenting their work
- Internet of Things (IoT): In this course students will learn about the Internet of Things (IoT), its applications, challenges and relationship with the Cloud. The course begins by exploring the opportunities for IoT and the concepts behind the IoT. Students will be provided with the knowledge and skills required to create an IoT application involving a Cloud platform
- Network & Cloud Security: This course will introduce students to the current trends and issues related to computer, network, and cloud security. The course covers both computer security (including such topics as security policies, access control, malwares, etc.) and network and cloud security, along with some relevant background in basic cryptography
- Network & Cloud Design & Assessment: This course gives students an in-depth understanding of network design, management, and associated technologies. It provides students with the knowledge and ability to analyse and resolve problems and monitor performance of a local area network as well as a cloud-based computer network. It further examines how to efficiently use different techniques to capture and analyse network and system data to create a competitive advantage
- Internship or Industry-based Project:
- Internship (not available for offshore International students): An internship will provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in a real-world environment. This internship is an elective, which means you can choose this as a field of study, or you can choose instead to do complete the industry-based project
- Industry-based Project: A capstone project is the final course in the programme to enable students to meet the requirements for this qualification. The project will be in the context of network and cloud technology and will follow appropriate industry standards and principles. The industry project course is based on real work situations, and consequently prepares students for their future career. The course establishes a connection between the theories that students have learnt throughout the programme with real life problems and practices

Entry requirements
- Graduates of any Bachelor degree, Level 6 IT or Business qualification, or Level 5 with one year of work experience in IT (Get in touch with us if you’re unsure)
International English Student Requirements
- IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or NZCEL (Academic) Level 4 or equivalent
- Onshore International students require and visa and insurance however Offshore International Students do not
This programme requires students to have access to a laptop/desktop that can connect to the internet with a web browser and a required minimum screen size of 10 inches. For device specifications, please talk to your Course Advisor.

Completing this programme can also lead you to further tertiary study options at level 7 and above.
